Burning the bridge
As I walk upon its boards,
Turning my hooded head
'round back behind the hordes.
Infested by compulsion
Self destruction
Regret and shame abound,
Longing for a gentle touch
but left without a sound.
In this chamber of echoes lies,
Promises unkept,
Onslaughts and barrages of empty words
Myself I should have checked.
In you I'll find no answer
despite my desperate fears,
Burning the bridge from time to time
As I've done for years.
