A long country By aldo kraas, www.PoetryPoem.com/poet11586 Unlock all Features - Upgrade to Poetry Prime
it grew
brick upon brick
replacing the sycamore
alder and oak
on the river's edge.
use the woods to build
furniture, pianos,cars
airplanes, missiles
and bombs.
putting brick upon brick
the men who
build the factories,
build a long country.
big piles of bricks
all up and down the
long country and
we move things
between them.
move things through
the long country
by the good grace
of god and the river.
a half a mile on either side
of the water
is a different country
different people
different food
different smell
different.
from how you're born
to how you die
and where you are buried
different
the only thing similar
is the money.
a rich man in the long country
is rich on the upland
a poor man by the river
is just a poor man.
