ramblings and things

it could have been a thing of beauty

fitting sympathetically into place

instead of that monstrosity looking as

though it was dropped from outer space

all harsh lines of glass and steel standing

alongside the marble and warm brick

a product of a mind having

maybe gone slightly sick

oh i know it does its job

as a modern shopping mall

and it fits the modern creed of

convenience and profit are all

but in this location

it’s a building out of time

its effect on the skyline

nothing less than a crime

the old docks were there

once the lifeblood of the city

despoiled and defaced

without taste or pity

nearby is Beverley Gate

where the civil war began

when they turned the king away

a bitter and chastened man

evcavated and restored

a reminder of our past

but it seems now

that may not last

they are threatening to fill it in

to revamp Victoria Square

a step thats not needed

why can't they leave it there

haven't they learned anything from

that glass and steel monstrosity

that blight on the area

that infernal princes quay

it could have been a thing of beauty

fitting sympathetically into place

instead of that monstrosity looking as

though it was dropped from outer space
