AUTUMN 'LAMENT'

The wind caressed autumn trees

Freeing leaves to sail on air

And sing laments to summers passing.

There was a chill that whispered of changes

Of darkness enshrouding the land

And birds migrating to a warmer clime.

In our hearts a sweet melancholy settled

A calmness and a peaceful feeling of nearness

Of drawing together after the golden days

To share a beauty that the passing year brings.

We grew mild that morning sitting by the lake

The sun rising from the mist on the water.

At evening we caught the twilight hour

When all is hushed by the amber sky

And in silence we sensed something deeper

A glimpse into a world untouched by time.
