I have seen the vagrants needs
carelessly scattered on the streets
like the hot suns irrevocable heat
I have wept at the sight of a newborns cry
lulled to eternal sleep, and held the hands
of a mother grieved and upon the stone weep
I have delved into the deadening blackness
and scanned the unending expanse
with eyes widened on its axis transfixed
I have seen the darkened earth mute
many a landscape as seasons swell
and natures spell has carried them off to sleep
I have glimpsed at times intricacies
and listened as the universe implored
gazing upon the firmament asking for more
and in asking why, and listening
this is what I heard
That they have risen with its swell
and slipping, crashed upon the shore
lifting their heads from the bloodied stone
to stand once more and breathe beneath sun
