They say you always remember your first
That your biased emotions play on
No matter how much you learn
They say there will be others after
Buy you will forget them far faster
They say it gets easier
They also lie
You were not my first
Not even my second or third
But my second didn't look at me that way
And my third didn't make my heart go crazy
My first I never respected
I was never afraid to tease
To try to understand
To make the first move
They didn't make me calm with their very presence
And sick at the thought of their absence
Their touch was nice
But your touch was mine
They never held me
Danced with me
Talked with me
Kissed me
The way you did
Once a new distraction came along
The last would fade away
But with you I did that
Yet here you are
Still in my heart
They didn't make it hurt
Like this does now
With you
Everything I knew not to fall for
Every guard I put up for the ones before
Everything I learned
And everything I knew to be true
Melted away
Along with all logic and sense
My vision of you is as biased as a freshman
Falling for the captain of a football team
Unrealistic and full of illogical hopes
Driven by fairy tales
And a few passionate kisses
They are what make me think
That meeting you
Undid everything I ever knew
Maybe the others existed
Maybe not
But just maybe
You were my first after all
