Withered and wilted
the rose petals lay,
reminiscent of
better times gone by.
She watched them sadly
from herbay window.
Last night he just left,
without a goodbye.
She still wondered why
with a long sad sigh.
For over a year,
she'd noticed a change
in his attitude.
He returned home late,
spoke very little,
seemed pre-occupied.
Her subtle attempts
to find out more, were
brushed off brusquely.
She had to give up.
That morning she found,
he had packed and left.
No explanations,
Just a scribbled note -
"I will not be back"
Like the waves, he had
come into her life,
bringing happiness.
Then pulled back, leaving
behind barren shores...
AND A BROKEN HEART.
