with a sharp blade i will cut
them level to the earth.
lay them aside to bundle
later in satisfaction.
and a faith filled purpose.
i have cast an old oath sworn,
sprinkled as cold spring water,
that they should be more plentiful
then their wild field bred cousins.
fair on their stems twisting
to shake the winds, pushed ever
upwards, until i cut them low,
cleanly determined
ground and unleavened
i bring it whole,
seeing my salvation realized
from this of my midwestern soil.
