They say death comes by threes
I thought that is a silly idea
complete bunch of nonsense'
a far fetched notion
people die when they die
not by the scores or numbers
but I was thinking the other day
of the losses I have known
Three Parents - yes I said three
my mother, my father and my daddy.
three precious babies, 1 girl, two boys
but yes it was three
Three best friends, one run down on a Sunday morning
one hung himself on a Tuesday afternoon
And one had his helicopter shot out
from under him in some far off land
called Viet Nam on a long ago Friday.
But still, it was three.
And three husbands.
One was a good guy whom I loved.
One was very nice and loved me.
The third was my soul mate.
Yes, it was three
but that third one may just kill me.
