Into the UnknownI look at watch thinking “Well it's not long before I go” Recalling when that clock hands went ever so slow, Where has that time gone? Retirement day is now here, With only five minutes still left of my last working year. I was good at my job, I enjoyed the challenges it presented, My skill level exceeding what I had initially intended, Not being boastful, I set out with something to prove, Don't say I can't do it, I'll simply go beyond and above, Life is forever changing, a closing door leaves a choice, New ones can still open, acquired maturity is your voice, Adjustment is difficult from being a master of your own, Invading someone else's world, entering the unknown , My world was of my own making, I just did what I do, Responsible for my actions and answered only to a few, So how will I take to relinquishing my aspects of control, My home is not all mine, I am now half of another whole, Working with servicemen, I gave counsel and some hope, Gave direction to many lost souls, and life's tools to cope, I may have saved some lives, assisted others to be free, Now half a century later, a fresh new future beckons me, The hands on my watch indicating its time now to leave, Don't look back, don't be sad, there's nothing left to grieve I was meant to be in my profession, experience I have grown, I need to focus on new challenges, reach into the unknown, Poetry Ad-Free Upgrades Vote for this poem
