ramblings and things

Perhaps those

Political Whores

Shoud go and fight

Their own wars.

It's too easy for a REMF, from

The safety of his planners seat,

To lay down a Code of Conduct

To be applied in a battle's heat:

Tommy Atkins at the sharp end

May give all he has to give

But a soldier's basic instinct

Must be the will to live.

Those safely at the rear

Must have a duty of care

And consideration for those

 Who survived being sent there.

After service a veteran knows

That prevalent attitude

That tosses him on the scrap heap

With little or no sense of gratitude.

Every single one of us

Conscripted or willing

Accepted the conditions of

Taking our Sovereign's shilling.

We all took the Oath that said

 What we were prepared to give;

 Surely we deserve consideration

When afterwards we try to live.

No man can understand

The path another may choose

Unless he has walked

In that other mans shoes.

It cannot be right that actions,

Taken in a split second of time,

 From twenty five year's distance

Can be judged as a War Crime.

Perhaps those

Political Whores

Shoud go and fight

Their own wars.
