No Vikings in TorryFrom where the Torry Battery sits, looking out to sea, Local folk watched, as foes landed north of the River Dee. Vikings came to pillage Aberdeen, for its open invitation. Exposure to the North Sea, made a vulnerable population, Torry with its rugged coast, gave protection from the foe, Many a wreck lies off the 'Ness, driven by a north east blow, Banded by the river, it allowed a certain culture to evolve, Over 900 years of history, its heritage will never dissolve. You can take the child out of Torry, but they're never be alone Growing up here creates a bond, that memory sets in stone, Just like this website, so many people have stories to share, Many have a lot in common, that rich tapestry we all wear, Many years have quickly passed since I left for a foreign land, But there is still a piece of me,a fond memory still at hand, That recalls many happy times, children playing in the street, Traditional games played, watched by the bobby on the beat. Recently I heard that sadly some classmates are with us no more, Please keep up this face-book sharing of memories gone before, Poetry Ad-Free Upgrades Vote for this poem
