Memorial Day
Memorial Day is here again
A time to reflect on those who have gone on before us

I think of our service men and women
who gave their all for us to be free

Simple words are not adequate
when I start to thank you for your service
≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈

My heart then turns to those I have loved and lost - my mother and father
a loving and kind daughter - a dear son-in-law and my precious grandson

Childhood friends who are now deceased
My dear neighbor who was more than a friend - he was a brother in my heart

≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈

Then My heart smiles and weeps when I think of my "Silver Haired Honey"
He is on the top of my list - He was a Navy man

After all of this time his name is still hard for me to speak
His smiling face in my dreams I so often greet

≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈

Then I came across a picture of our children and the grandchildren
My heart sings - "Death is not the end"

Through them he will live on and on
For his name and his love each carries

≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈

On this Memorial Day flowers and flags will be placed on graves
tears will flow with thoughts of yesterday

I will think too of the coming tomorrows
From tomorrows heartaches I will not borrow

≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈

When these little one grow up new life will come from them
His name and love will be carried on to the next generations

It is my prayer these dear young one will never know war
That God's goodness will on each of them pour
