Sorrow and Joy
A huge lake of joy filled with
sweet water so tasty
A single tear of sorrow and
the water turns salty
If saltiness was equated with grief
and happiness a sweet thing
Why do we add salt to our food
and not sugar to everything
Sugar is added in heaped spoons
and salt but just a pinch
Is too much pleasure cloying and
sadness a required pinch
Salt and sugar go hand in hand
and so do the joy and grief
It is the correct proportion of
both that balances the life
sweet water so tasty
A single tear of sorrow and
the water turns salty
If saltiness was equated with grief
and happiness a sweet thing
Why do we add salt to our food
and not sugar to everything
Sugar is added in heaped spoons
and salt but just a pinch
Is too much pleasure cloying and
sadness a required pinch
Salt and sugar go hand in hand
and so do the joy and grief
It is the correct proportion of
both that balances the life
