Black And White days

It's like looking back through

A monochromed dream

To those long past days of

A little blood in my alcohol stream

And every day started

Like the one just passed

Only the calendar confirming

It was not the last.

The pounding thumping

Throbbing head

As I struggled from

My clinging bed

Most days

Giving thanks

That the night gone wasn't

Again a complete blank

Praying for the strength

To just carry on

Until the hangover

Was finally gone

And the time for that next beer

Was finally gratefully here.

I marvel that I am still alive

That I got the strength to survive
