Speck Of Dirt

child...
if someone speaks to you and says

you are
a particle of sand
or dirt...

then, you, in turn,
form a negative thought
an idea about your core self
at your tenderest of ages

when the seedling of yourself is still
pushing up through the new soils of your childhood dreams

I must warn you...
it may be an alien idea
but grafted on
it will do its work

next it will form its counterpart
an alien personality
to fit the transplanted thought
a thought which you would never have
saddled yourself with as our own

(this is a burden too large for someone so small)

then this false-front idea used
will become a pearl forming each layer upon layer
by using this particle of sand
this speck of dirt
this false idea
to form its construct of misconstrued personality

listen child

do not do this
it will take a life time to sweep away
this speck of dirt, this particle of sand
this false personality

you must crush this peal
which is not your pearl
but only lies
and more lies

do not let it take form
be free
be your own truest self.
