Cannot  Bring Her Back

white house with the black door
she lives there no more
moved away
she's gone

white house with the black door
bulldozed into the ground
shutters flapping off their moors
plants tugged out
from the barren earth
this is what it looks like
she's starting over
gone

white house with the black door
trees cut down by the score
a beloved cat's grave will be dug up
to be replaced with barren icy hoar
such is the state of
reconstruction
she's gone
starting over

I can not rebuild what was there
fill in the lack
bring her loving lively presence back
she was a home to me
a gentle soul with her
sweetest laugh
I cannot snap my fingers
undo what's done
change the facts
she's gone
starting over.
