after- midnight marauder's ice capades

in the dense fog
of a snowy night
two shadows flitted across the grounds
startling me out of feverish dreams
like two small bear cubs
they looked to be about that size
mischief makers gliding
across the glare ice
their expertise startled
my torpid mind awake
what magical movements these two marauders could make
bounding and chasing after one other
with unending joy in the dark
as if a parking lot could be
their amusement park
when suddenly one of them glanced up
and I peered into a pair
of bemused masked eyes
then I witnessed one give the other a nod
so that the both streaked off
down the drive
into the gathering dawn
yet sprinkled over the lawn
crystallized a memory of their romp
fresh and glistening still
within my mind
until the widest smile formed
I felt like a child again
I knew I could be happy
