Milwaukee was in the world series
I was stationed at Great Lakes Naval Base
I was one of fifty Air Force medics
invited to one of the best medical schooling
I had tickets to the series
Excited three of us in uniform two Sailors
Went to checkout the Stadium transportation
The Asian flu had hit hard on our base
Working on the ward there was little chance
that I would not contact the flu
When we arrived back on the train
I felt fine but one of my buddies was coughing
I was prepared to work both of my friends were sick
I told the nurse I was fine ready to start my shift
She insisted that I have my temparture taken
I was greeted with a themometer 104 degrees
I was immediately with my buddies taken to the Death Ward
Several days that was the last thing I remembered
When the fever broke I was confused
Many were dying of the flu the Death Ward
so named because this is where the worst cases were taken
Four or five days later I with fever breaking awoke
I had faced death and been in a coma
"I need to get out of here I have World series tickets."
The corpsman said "Milwaukee won the series." "What---?
I need to tell my friends. They were betting on The Yankees
Son, they never left the death ward."
