The first was Blackee a black lab
Blackee was named Blackee because he was black
Great Grandpa named him for a river in Africa
But then I was nicknamed Punky
Caused me many a fistfight growing up
Actually Blackie was Grandpa's dog on the family farm
Blackee loved kids that is probably why he liked me
My cousin, Blackee, and I walked the woods in Issaquah
There were Bears, Cougars, and wild Panthers stalking us
OK, grown up now the Black Panthers were in our imagination
Or they were in town riding motorcycles
It was really Susquatch who was stalking us
There are no black Panthers in Washington
Blackee warned us when danger was near, and danger
he warned that he was near, like bears in blackberry patch
Eyes in the woods that were following us and Susquatch
Barney was probably the first dog who ever owned me
To him I was a stray you have to understand he adopted me
Found me walking one night from the field house and took me home
He became my best friend, me, my bike and Barney were inseparable
He was a German Shepard and he guarded me from harm
Grade school to Junior high he never left my side
Heidi, Sadie, they were the next dogs to own me
Both Sadie and Heidi were mi nature collies
Looked allot like Lassie only smaller
Sadie had known a man who beat her it took some time
For her to train me, we walked around the yard leading me by leash
Holmes never owned me he owned my Grand kids
But he was so loving and would lay at Grandpa's feet
Known as a hunting dog breed elk hound,
rabbits would rest on his chest
He loved kids, and adults to Holmes, were really always kids.
The latest dog, Nala, is a Leonberger and giant of dogs
She lets me know she loves me by laying on her paws
On my shoulders and kissing me on the cheeks
My own ownership, a Mallard duck, A hummingbird and white rat
Oh, and at the fair one day I took home a green turtle
Freddy ran away one day and years later
found him hidden in the bedpost
Should have known Freddy would not go far
