Possibilities

Elfin, pretty, almost petite
Precisely dressed, compact and neat
Behind her bar with mischievous grin
Standing there taking everything in.
It can't have been any surprise
I devoured her nightly with my eyes.

We maybe made love.
We maybe did, I think.
Just vague memories
Surfacing through drink.
I remember she took me
Quietly through the door
To their living quarters
And I remember no more.

I was missing half an hour so my friends said
Asked where I'd been  just shook my head,
Smiling, even grinning, all I would say
Elli just gave me her present for my birthday.
That maybe happened over fifty years ago
Whether we did or didn't now I'll never know.
