 Heart Songs

I Will Be Brave . . . Tomorrow

I Will Be Brave
Tomorrow

 Tonight, you lay your head
Beneath the soil of home
I lay within our empty bed
All dreams now gone

Our Son took the flag today
From my trembling hands
How is it that a five year old
Can so completely understand

Your words were real
As were your requests

I held your Momma
As your words spoke to say
Your soul now rests

No longer your bed made
Of desert sand each night
Paved streets of gold
A just reward
For all you sacrificed

What am I now to do?

I really never let myself believe
That we could lose you

I hope you can somehow know
That my heart will never ever cease
To love you so

I realize I am a soldier's wife
But for this moment ...
I am first a broken heart
Alone in what will become
So many sleepless nights

Tomorrow . . . I will be brave
You will be proud of me, you will see.

But for tonight...

...Tonight I am so afraid

How Can You Be Gone...

...How can you be gone to forever

"On behalf of the President of the United States
and a grateful nation, please accept this flag as a token
of the honorable and faithful service of your loved one."
