The Storm

The Storm

The sweltering heat of the day
Touching the face of roses
Causing them
To bow their beautiful heads

Canopies of green
In all likelihood in wait
Of plummeting debris

The thickness of the air
Leaves exhaustion behind
For the next effort to inhale

The horizon
Now painting the signs of an impending storm
The sky turning a recognizable shade of bluish green
As clouds begin to hold hands with jagged forks of light
That reaches for the ground below

There is an eerie sense of silence within claps of thunder
A feeling of alarm reaching to anxious hearts

Weather channels are prevalent within homes
That listen anxiously for word of what nature
Has in store for them this day

Children and pets gathered near
Reassuring words from parents consoling
The faces of young hearts holding fear

Porch swings begin to move slightly
The sky begins to boil
In the near distance an alarm sounds amidst
The increasing wail of winds beginning to gather

Hearts race as just beyond them is seen
The form in pure furry twisting and turning
With a tale that races the lightening
In full play to reach the ground below

Now within the hands of God
Shelter is taken and prayers are said
As a huddled family strains to hear
A sign that all is clear
