I never ever considered myself a poet
11th grade language arts I was asked to read and recite
500 lines of poetry to pass required
I had to go to summer school to graduate
I studder and suffered memory lapses
Entered college on probation lacking Junior Language Arts
1.8 grade average did not take education seriously
Failure to complete poetry dropped my gradepoint
I went to college on a basketball scholarship
To play basketball needed passing grades
Someone said creative writing an easy passing grade
First day in class teacher said,
"Anyone who can get a poem published
In Writers Magazine gets an automatic "A"
Does not have to take poetry portion
I was used to "C's and D's
My poem for my Mother was published
Revised after he death of Cancer
The joke is found an old album of first poems
