 Contemporary poetry by Dan Donlan

Today as yesterday was to be a day of rest
Pull my knees out of my chest
Ok, it rained again
After my fall down the stairs
The pain in my body is everywhere
Been taking advanced Tylenol
Takes away some of the pain not all
Doc said I fractured a vertebrae
And one of my ribs got in the way
Can't drive high blood pressure away
Something like that sorta ruins your day
Seven in the morning and wife working outside
I had to go out it is macho pride
OK, she sees everything no place to hide
One thing about outside and working hard
With so many tall weeds get lost in the yard
Sure wish I was a Congressman or Senator
I could vacation for months until Winter
Please vote for me pension one year and I can retire
And not even have to work a day or perspire
The only thing I could not do be that much a lier.
