The Mounting Cost

At the beggining of this month (June 2017) a tower block of apartments rapidly burst into flame. The death toll is still not known.  There are allegations that it had not been properly maintained.   It is owned by the richest Council in London.

It's called passing the buck.
When it comes to a stop
It will be the fault of some erk
Nowhere near the top.
Who owns Grenfell Tower,
We do the local council said,
But, not our faults, we've no
Blame for all those dead.
It's run on our behalf
Managed by an association
So ask them to explain
The current sad situation.
And so it goes on
Down the blame line
Certainly somebody's fault
But it really can't be mine.
Management by delegation
It's called, done to save cash
And so austerity and
False economy clash.
All done and dusted in
Efficiency's  name
Government policy
So who's to blame.
We renovated and repaired
Took a few short cuts on the way
But it's really not our fault
You know, at the end of the day.
We'll just mutter consolations
Hand out cash to cover the fact
This tragedy neednt have happened
If we'd only bothered to act.
So, right down to the wire
There's no responsibility any more
Just a few more deaths to add
To austeriy's  mounting score.
