Never the one

I hope that you’ve found real happiness
Something I knowingly never could
And you found your true loves sweetness
Something I prayed you always would…
For I have long since understood my downfall
And regretted so much that I’d done
It’s strange, I only ever meant to love you
But for you I was never the one.

The one that would only be someone
That could calm away your fears
That would cast away your bleeding heart
And vanquish all your tears
The one that only had to hold your hand
To make your heart beat fast
The one you knew would hold your love
In a place that love could last.

Now the years have past, I’ve found happiness
I’m in a place I like to be
No more looking too reasons for failure
No more looking for an image to be…
Some demons I battle still haunt me
There are some lonely nights, now that I’m old
But never being the one that would hold you
No longer make my nights feel so cold.
