  October's Child

Window's of Life

I've roamed across many pathways throughout this lifetime
Compiled a rippling of questions inside the doors of my mind
Worn the love of a true friend during winter's harshest clime
Lived in elegance and simplicity, loving life and mankind
__________

I've housed a great set of books threaded with mystical plots
Jumped rope while singing songs that were one of a kind
Drew houses and stick people simply connecting the dots
Slept in a rustic log cabin with a fireplace and two cots
__________

Attended church services at night where lanterns were lit
Daddy would preach on and on, I would squirm and wiggle
My brother would cry and fuss, then pitch the holiest fit
Mama would start to take him out but he'd take off lickety split
__________

Daddy's salary would be chickens, fresh eggs, and ham
Backwoods country folk could sure make me giggle
We sat in rocking chairs and quietly mumbled "yes, ma am"
As daddy discussed the Bible and God's promises to Abraham
__________

Life is full of twist and turns; roads that keep spinning by
It's a whole lot like vegetable soup, filled with this and that
I've been on the mountain tops pretending I could fly
I've opened the windows of life and heard the oceans' cry
