My Life (post divorce and empty nest) in Sonnets

Confession

Original Contemporary Poetry by author, Jean Parr

“Confession”

Why do men say one thing and do another?
Why do I expect men to be as attentive as I need?
Is it that they've been taught incorrectly by their mothers?
Am I supposed to set the example, take the lead?

Are men really just after one thing?
Am I unrealistic in my desires?
It's not like I'm asking for a ring.
Should I play the game and call myself a liar?

Over 40, are their any decent men not used to being alone?
I long for a companion who will share all of me.
Or are all of these "eligible" men in a zone?
I want someone who will accept me for who I am and just be

Confusion dances in my head;
Confusion as I lay myself down to bed
