                              Fifty Years Later
Dark shadows move quickly across my mind, as an eerie mist rises from the jungle floor.
The faint sound of automatic fire erupts on my right flank, under the cover of a drifting pop flare’s dying glow.
Back,back, I go!!
I break out in a cold sweat, heartbeat pounding, adrenaline rush! The smell of jungle rot burns my nostrils.
There! Over there,  beyond the wire, in the tall elephant grass, movement… black clad images emerge, one at a time.
Do I open fire, or stay concealed?  My hands shake uncontrollably for a few seconds, while I decide on what action to take.
Four or five VC  are advancing on my position!  I began to tremble as I raise the weapon to my shoulder, just then, my wife
shakes me, and loudly says; “ Wake up! your’re dreaming again!
Fifty years ago, but the nightmares never stop!
