  “The Death of a Mind”

He could feel it
slipping away
his grasp
loosing
on his hold
of his sanity
he wondered
if he would
miss it,
if it had
as much value
as people are
made out to
believe it does
not that it
really mattered
his control
of his lucid
thoughts
kept getting
shorter,
long
and then longer
breaks
consisting of
rambling and
unconnected ideas
taking up
more and more
space
in his mind
a mind
which has been
giving him
less and less
cooperation lately,
he thinks about
a school boy crush
he once had
is her name
and face
soon to be
forgotten
replaced with
blurry images
and words
he’ll never be able
to find
he starts to
write down
her description
before realizing
it wasn’t going to
matter
he couldn’t
outsmart time
he could see
his fate
out their
waiting for him
he turns off his
television set
and stretches out
on his old
but very well kept
sofa
closes his eyes
and wades through
his memories
and when he
finds
one of those
uniquely special
moments
he takes it apart
and relives
each and every
detail
before moving on
in search of
another memory
to remake
his own
he keeps this up
for a couple of
hours
before his mind
gets lost in a
hole
prompting him
to sit up
switch on his
television set
and start to
continuously
flip through the
channels
till
many hours
later
when he is
quietly
led away
to bed…
