Sorry I have no photo
Not even leaving a feather
So you cannot read the pain
And much too proud to use a cane
Age has robbed me of dexterity
Has not robbed me of my sincerity
I walk like an old man
I am an old man
But there was a day
When I could slinky and slay
Bop the night away
Blind date in Air Force uniform
Leave you kinds warm
Next day leaving to Osan,Korea
A girl I would never see again
Except in the girl left behind letters
Three hundred couples started and it came down to one
Touched last on the shoulder the contest we had won
Flash forward sixty years to 2017
The announcer said, "All married couples!"
Newly engaged or a long time more
On wounded legs I looked about the floor
Tested a few moves I could dance not walk
Children were nodding, "look at Gramp's!"
Thought carefully about going up ramps
Wife was swaying and moving about
The kids looked over about the shout
Grandma wanted to dance!
I could not in pain avoid her glance
At first I thought there was no chance
Somehow I made it on the floor
The smiles of the Grand kids could not ignore
One by one they asked who had been married the longest
To the lady beside me I belongest
And then it came down to one couple "56" years
November 17 it well be "57" I fears--!
The pain was real I could not show the tears
Before the dance floor clears
The announcer said, "As a couple what do you
have to say about what kept alive this loving relationship?
Wife said, "Perseverance!"
And I nearly brain dead tired said, "Separate bedrooms!"
After she hit me and laughter died
Grandson came up and whispered,
"Sure glad I inherited humor and not your dancing ability
When Grams gets you alone she is going to test your agility.
"Can you get me to the emergency room first?" for pity
"I think I broke something! Not feeling so witty."
