Dust before Dawn - Part 1

The sound of wood against wood clapped like thunder
An open door never looked so dire

Every step was another moment of life
She didn't need to look over her shoulder - she knew he was right behind her

Her stomach was warm and wet
But blood meant freedom

Shattered glass
Stinging cigarettes
Cold steel
Cutting words

His bare feet burned in the dry snow
But pain meant justice

Every moment was a step from the truth
He didn't need to know where she was - he just needed to follow the light

The headlights glowed in the forest's inky edges
Fumes never looked divine
