What Truth There Is When You See It  (Maybe I'm A Man...)

fever dreams
not the extremes
the reversals of reality
but in fact
hidden truths
how I became
was transformed into
my middle brother's son
how I came back to visit and
I became his twin youth
with mutton chop sideburns
and Salvador Dalian stache
slender and reedy with adventure and cash
how
my male siblings stood speechless
at last I was peerless
and worth my salt
living up to my due
becoming a man
or being born that way
being what I ought to do

they no longer saw my faults
they were gone in that instant

I asked then, of my dear partner
of 20 some years
what could this mean
could he read my dreams
was this something to fear
he honestly answered
it means
you, as a sister, don't matter
its only when you became a man
you were validated
it was only then that they
saw who you were
not as you are
but for what they understand...
that's why you grew sideburns
and that Salvadorian twirl

you will only get validation in your family
if you're a man

if Karl Jung were alive today
I'm certain my partner would have
taken away
most of his business
how he'd thrive and flourish
off his insight

what truth there is
now
that I have seen it.
