The Mystery of Masada

This was the title of the sermon
Preached by Bishop Drew...
Of course it drew my interest
As all  good mysteries do.

Prophectic in its content...
Yet based on History...
This sermon had me searching
For more to the mystery.

Masada...the  great fortess...
The Jewish hiding place
Saw the very last resistance
Of the ravished Jewish race.

Rome had overthrown Jeruselem
And almost all of Israel.
The Isralites remaining
Fled to the fortress they knew well.

Yes, they'd revolted against Rome...
Tired of marching to its beat...
But this revolt was a disaster
And ended in their own defeat.

Their last hope was Masada
But the Romans proved too strong.
This saw the ending of a nation
That wandered for so very long.

The few remaining Jews dispersed
And scattered here and there
Had no country and were all
Dispised by nations everywhere.

But God had plans for Israel
And just as Ezekiel shared..
Those dry bones would live again!
Thus the Word of God declared!

Then on May fourteenth of forty eight
President Truman made a vow
To stand beside Ben-Gurion...
Called his state a nation now.

Can a nation be born in just a day?
Isaiah predicted that it can.
A 2,000 plus  years exile
Ended according to God's plan.

But...back to Masada and an excavation...
A mystery was opened to all
A 1960s hard searching crew
Found the proof hidden in a wall

That God had never abandoned
His people,  no, by no means...
That His love was forever working
Somewhere behind the scenes

Found were fragments of the Scripture
Yes, Ezekiel Thirty Seven...
Ezekiel's vision of the dry bones...
Of Israel's resurrection!

So if God can resurrect a nation
Almost erased from history...
Then I am standing on the promise
He'll do the same for you and me.

~~ Dedicated to Bishop Drew~~
(Glad to have you and your interesting sermons back,)

Ezekiel 37
37 The hand of the Lord came upon me
and brought me out in the Spirit of the Lord,
and set me down in the midst of the valley;
and it was full of bones. Then He caused me
to pass by them all around, and behold, there were
very many in the open valley; and indeed they were
very dry. And He said to me, “Son of man,
can these bones live?”
So I answered, “O Lord God, You know.”
Again He said to me, “Prophesy to these bones,
and say to them, ‘O dry bones, hear the word
of the Lord! Thus says the Lord God
to these bones: “Surely I will cause breath
to enter into you, and you shall live
. I will put sinews on you and bring flesh
upon you, cover you with skin and put breath
in you; and you shall live. Then you
shall know that I am the Lord.”’”
So I prophesied as I was commanded; and as I
prophesied, there was a noise, and suddenly
a rattling; and the bones came together,
bone to bone. Indeed, as I looked,
the sinews and the flesh came upon them,
and the skin covered them over; but there
was
no breath in them.
Also He said to me, “Prophesy to the breath,
prophesy, son of man, and say to
the breath, ‘Thus says the Lord God:
“Come from the four winds, O breath,
and breathe on these slain, that they may live.”’”
10 So I prophesied as He commanded me,
and breath came into them, and they lived,
and stood upon their feet, an exceedingly great army.
11 Then He said to me, “Son of man, these bones
are the whole house of Israel. They indeed
say, ‘Our bones are dry, our hope is lost,
and we ourselves are cut off!’ 12 Therefore
prophesy and say to them, ‘Thus says the
Lord God: “Behold, O My people, I will open
your graves and cause you to come up from your graves,
and bring you into the land of Israel.
13 Then you shall know that I am the Lord,
when I have opened your graves, O My people,
and brought you up from your graves.
14 I will put My Spirit in you, and you shall live,
and I will place you in your own land.
Then you shall know that I, the Lord,
have spoken it and performed it,” says the Lord.’
