Portrait of a Preacher

His message was simple, his message was true.
He offered a lifeline to me and to you.
His kind disposition, his total concern
Captured each lesson God would have us learn.

He taught in a gentle, mild mannered way...
Yet not compromising what God had to say.
The Scriptures are Holy , he said time and again...
They point us to Jesus...the Savior of men.

He spoke of the pentalty...the price Jesus paid...
How on our behalf on the Cross He was laid...
Where He suffered and bled for every man's sin...
And he asked every person to invite Jesus in.

"Let Him into your hearts and into your minds...
The Lord's coming soon...I can see all the signs."
He pleaded and prayed as he spoke of God's Grace.
One could almost see Jesus on his faithful face.

He lived what he preached in quiet dignity...
Not the slightest suggestion of hypocrisy.
His dear Ruth was gone...had earthly expired...
Yet Billy preached on although semi-retired.

Who could forget him or the promise he preached...
Proclaiming to Presidents that God could be reached.
Reaching out to the world in peace and in love...
A man filled with the Spirit...a man led from above.

I can only imagine the look on his face...
When he claims the prize, for he's finished the race.
He'll be forever with Jesus...with the Great I Am.
For Heaven was made for men like Billy Graham.

~~Dedicated to the memory of my Aunt Eloise,
Who introduced me to Billy Graham's ministry~~

Mark 16:15
He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.
