     “Time for a Break”

She saw him
as he made
his way
towards her
and was surprised
at the lack
of having any
kind of feelings
at all for
him
she thought it
would have
been harder
over coming her
strong feelings
of hate
that she once
had for him
during that
first time
he approached
her
after she made
the much needed
break
that she knew
she had to
make
to protect
her inner self,
she was
dreading
getting through
that awkward
small talk
associated with
that first
meeting
but instead
she felt
nothing
when he passed
through her
personal space
she felt
nothing at all
even a total
stranger
would have
invoked
more of a
presence
before her
than he did
as he sulked
by her
reaffirming
to herself
that she had
made
the right
choice,
a smooth
transition
no big scene
drawn out
around a lot
of
unnecessary
drama
instead
she walked
right
through him
proving to
herself
she was finally
free
for the first
time
in years,
his over bearing
high maintenance
shadow
wasn’t hanging
over her
sucking away
all her life’s
energy
draining her
very soul
with his
unsolicited
comments
and curt
remarks,
there is a
lightness
to her step
now
that
heavy weight
of his yoke
has been lifted
off of her
had she known
of this euphoria
state
she would
transcend to
from cutting
him out
of all her life’s
pictures
she would have
pulled out her
scissors
years ago,
her smile
keeps growing
with each step
he takes
farther
away from
her
her life’s
biggest problem
making its way
down the road,
she saw him
again
a couple of
months later
in a very
common encounter
accidentally
bumping shoulders
as they passed
on the street
and as she
recognized
his unshaven
unkept face
she began to
laugh
causing him to
scurry off
without a
word
and in her
lightened
euphoria state
she started
skipping
down the
street,
as the little
girl lost
to her
returned to
her heart…
