Butterfly

Like a newly emerged Butterfly
Trying out its wings
Walking down the street
In her very best things.
A very pretty little Butterfly
On her way to meet a friend,
A sneaking off from homework night
With a sad and bitter end.

Two hours later with the police,
Having had a lucky escape,
A broken winged little Butterfly
Having narrowly avoided rape.
She's in her father's arms,
Crying on his shoulder,
And he's feeling anger
As he very gently holds her.

And he feels a parent's guilt
And he wants revenge
That natural primitive feeling
To hunt and to avenge.
He's feeling so helpless
Not knowing what to do
And suddenly he realises
That he's now crying too.

Her face is bruised and battered
From the force of the attack
But this little Butterfly turned
And bravely fought right back,
For driving that little form
Was a will of strongest steel
Helping her to cope with
Pain and hurt she might feel.

Her finery is torn and dirty
But she doesn't really care:
She just wants to rip it off, wash,
And find something else to wear.
A newly emerged little Butterfly
But at least she's alive
And with a father's love and care
That  Butterfly will survive,
.
