My Life (post divorce and empty nest) in Sonnets
Tracie
Original Contemporary Poetry by author, Jean Parr
“Tracie”
Dedicated to Tracie, April, 2018
The enemy of my friend is I; yes, it's abstract
My friend is Tracie and my enemy is Tracey, not an ally
I should be my own friend, but it took another of the same name to remind me of this fact
I've been more destructive than instructive, as my profession would imply
Mostly depressed, sometimes manic, always needy…just stating
Through it all, Tracie adapts and adjusts her approach, however I show up
We've tackled many obstacles together: divorce, car accidents, and even navigating the world of online dating
Tracie is always right, although Tracey is stubborn and refuses to admit it, unlike a grownup
Alas, it was Tracie who talked me off the ledge when I wanted to jump, my final farewell
So, although difficult for me, I can't be selfish of her; it's already fated
Time will only tell
A phrase I've always hated
Tracie must move to Maine
Tracey must remain free of pain
