     “The Hug”

He just wanted
to have some
kind of
human contact
to be hugged
to be touched
to be held
he had forgotten
what that
sensation
felt like,
a girl that had
quit
came back in
to see a few
of the people
she missed
on her last
day
of work
one of which
was him,
she came up
to him quickly
pulled him
close
to her
as she gave
him
a tight
farewell hug
her head
only coming up
to his shoulders
he bent over
her
and hugged her
back
her delicate
frame
cradled in his
arms
the unique scent
of her
rising up between
them
he lost himself
in her embrace
one he knew
was spawned
in friendship
but that moment
of closeness
reminded him
of what he
was missing
living in an
empty world
of work
and sports
on his 70-inch
screen,
she loosened
her hold
on him
and he knew
he would have
to let her
slip away
the trace heat
of her body
still resonating
against his
leaving behind
an emptiness
that he had
forgotten
he knew
and had learned
to live without
only to be
reminded
today
of one more
thing
he didn’t have
in his life,
the warm
embrace
of a woman…
