 Elsie`s Poetry

THERE IS A SEASON

THERE IS A SEASON

Now the once green leaves turn golden brown
And slowly to the ground they all fall down,
The branches stand stark against the grey sky
Their growth now fallen lying crisp and dry.

The colours are pretty one has to say
Like a thick blanket on the ground they lay,
Then the wind will come and they all stir
Blowing freely carried in the autumn air.

When they settle they crunch beneath your feet
You can`t walk quietly you can`t be discreet,
These carefree leaves would stick to my dog`s fur
And until I removed it he would just stand there.

Why he couldn`t do it himself I will never know
He would look up at me and refuse to go,
It was as though this leaf was weighing him down
It made me laugh so much I couldn`t frown.

But those leaves are gone now and so is he
These leaves remind me how funny he could be,
I miss our walks through those coloured leaves
For the tree`s loss and my own my heart grieves.

Everything has a season this I know so well
The tree will replace its leaves from where they fell,
I can`t replace Sweep and I wouldn`t want to
I`ll smile thinking of him but my heart is still blue.
