     “The Sun Tried”

The sun tried
to claim the
day
burn away
the veil of
fog
hugging the valley
floor
the air heavy
and wet
taking the sun’s
rays
in stride
the proactive curtain
defusing
the sun’s bright
light
letting only a
dull glow
get through,
she leans back
on her hands
as she stares
forward
into the featureless
slow moving entity
blanketing
her world
like a giant
unformed thought
not unlike the
clouds
going through her
head
searching for the
right words
wanting to find
meaning
in all that
he said,
she pulls her
hands
inside her sweatshirt
hugs her body
for warmth
she can see
that the day’s
outcome
has already been
decided
both the sun
and her thoughts
lost,
in the shapeless
misty haze
that’s floating through
the valley
and her mind…
