The Idea of Me

Original Contemporary Poetry by author, Jean Parr

"The Idea of Me"

Who is he in love with, broken and damaged?
Is he in love with me?
With all my emotional baggage
Or, is he in love with the idea of me?

We met under unusual circumstances, neither trying to impress
I thought he was attractive, but distant and had no idea of his interest or his glances
When I finally asked the question, "Do you like me more than a friend?" he responded, "Yes."
He was very shy and worried that he wouldn't stand a chance.

Now I've seen my roses lose their pollen
My future looks grim
We argue more often than not and spend most days in silence, stubbornly refusing to discuss the problem
It appears that my shininess has grown dull and the reality looks dim

He's distrustful of my fidelity
But without merit, that's just jealousy
