The Better Blessing

Why do we get so excited when God comes through
As if deep inside we didn't expect Him to
Why do we feel so blessed when In the nick of time
The bill is paid, needs are met to the very last dime
Why do we call ourselves blessed, when every other day
We cry out to God and He comes and makes a way
Is it just the simple blessings that we are living for
As if our God is not capable of doing so much more
He allows the rain to fall on the just and unjust alike
Should we be satisfied with making it through the night
Or do we think His blessings are for us alone
Blessed to have a job and car and a home
Blessed to have food and clothes to wear
Money for bills in the bank with change to spare
Since our father in heaven knows we need those things
Why are we so content with simple, selfish blessings
Not to seem ungrateful for the day to day
But concerning blessed, Jesus had this to say
“It is more blessed to give than to receive”
How blessed we could be, if we only believe
Blessed is not having enough for ourselves
But having enough heart for others as well
Having the resource and wisdom to sow
And the patience to work and watch it grow
The Apostle Paul speaks of labor to support the weak
But also a man who doesn't work, doesn't eat
So the better blessing isn't just sitting and getting
Or saying, laying, praying then quitting
But sowing and reaping are action words
Acting on the commands that are heard
Those who have tried it already know
The better blessings come in overflow
It's not about what you have or have not
But if you will distribute what you got
Move from a mindset receiving to giving
From existing in Christ to really living
