Dr. Frankenstein's Surprise (Re-Galvanized)

I wrote a poem to remember you
ripped it from my heart
then eviscerated it
and let the pieces flutter off in the wind

it and the person I thought you were...
maybe then I could too be
deleted into some file in cyberspace...

I no longer wear bright colors
they belong to another girl
whom you know
somewhere inside my body
the rainbows you constructed are processed
into candy-colored waste

I've set with your words
awhile
and parsed their meaninglessness
my hurt is tattooed with them
and where my heart ought to beat
is a bloody bruise

never had I been so like a front-door
and how I lent someone the key
before he'd asked if he could politely enter

do not come from a place of need
monsters, needful of love and touch,
for your heart is quarry
prey to any panther who smiles wide enough
and shows his broad beautiful teeth

he who possessed shiny sleekness
then re-created in me
put the pause in my breast
and aches which no medicine could assuage

he was that Creature
the galvanizing sleek
sweet-worded Inventions
the dream which haunts and taunts
and ceaselessly marinates
your thoughts with unkept dreams

from Him
rose my embedded imagination
as if
He'd befriended all of my loneliness
only to leave me
when it better suited Him

His purr brought no hymns
but golden stares
into my darkness
the beating of my heart
in his ears
in a new way
in different time signature and key
knowing when he could
have me

Frankenstein
born from the fever of
an inventive female mind
far exceeded the limitations of her  poet-lover
that same woman he claimed to love freely,
freely--being the word
holding no magic

(he was free to love her only when it suited him...)

after nearly taking credit for
her creation
one which sprung from her deepest self
born of
controversy,
her sense of abandonment
Shelley decided against betrayal

its quite wrong
Sir
to steal
then  call it borrowing

my door now
hangs off hinges
the knob which opens it
jangled to distraction
the outer surface of it
worn down with rain
and pounding

love isn't free and
love is no brown cow

love requires care
gentler hands

if I was once galvanized
I know now I ought not be reborn
within the grasp of careless hands

monsters don't ask
to come here
as children don't ask,
both, yet unborn have a dull innocence
and are not ever asked
why then
did you
bring me here
to this cloaked place
in the deep woods
with no eyes to see
just raw hands feeling
their way through
my poor attempt to follow

I foolishly followed
and fell into a crevasse
from which my lame legs
could not climb out of...
and I had no hand
to reach in

galvanized in the frittering channels of thought,
my new found losses left
to care for me

where did go
with your sleekness
with some of my vitals
in your jaws
dripping red trails
behind you

then surprise:

read my new-born words
my poem
my recreation
I rise
I'm alive again
as free as this poem is

galvanized
BY MY OWN HANDS.
