I urge you as sojourners, And exiles to abstain; Fleshly passion yearners, Against the soul to attain. Keep conduct honorable, When the evildoers speak; Be dignified and noble, To the glory that you seek. So others see your good deeds, As being glory to God; Sharing with them of their needs, And give God honor and laud. Be subject for the Lord’s sake, To every institution; Respect kings of a mandate, Proclaims a resolution. Or the governors as sent, Punish those who do evil; Or do good to compliment, Rule to ouster the devil. For this is the will of God, To silent foolish people; Assure the good is not flawed, And do praise in the temple. Live as people who are free, Not to cover up evil; But as servants with a plea, Looking for Christ’s arrival. Honor and love everyone, Submit to authority; For the Father sends His Son, In having supremacy. Copyright ©2023 Richard Newton Sherrer Vote for this poem
