Another year is departing, While our memories fade; Because a new year is starting, The calendar has conveyed. What we see within our view, Only the numbers have changed; From what was old unto the new, How the months have been arranged. But we look for a renewed hope, About what happened in the past; Of the things that we had to cope, As our trials pass by fast. All trials and tribulations, Had been making us go astray; Because of the inhibitions, Which has caused us to disobey. But our hope is nothing less, Than looking unto Jesus Christ; And leaning on His righteousness, To resist things that have enticed. We look to a new year for new light, For guiding us on a new path; A path for giving new insight, So that we are spared from the wrath. So let us bring in the new year, With the promise of God in trust; Continue to honor and fear, In the One who is fair and just. Copyright © 2023 Richard Newton Sherrer Vote for this poem
