Dead wood

On my knees I slump. I am a broken man
Lost in a forest of my darkest shadows
Everything here is dead, nothing lives here but me
Within the damp moss and rotten bark of the tall decaying trees
No sun or even rain can disturb my solitude
I have eternity to stand alone and realize my faults
But my past frightens me
I can not even contemplate a future
My present being and time is simply in this dead wood
The fungus has blinded my vision
The rot has seeped into my confidence
I have walked for moons and i am tired of walking further
And now I find a stream
Water! I have never been so happy, i fell emotion for the first time
Just to see a little life, makes my life so happy
I quickly wash away my sins
I clean my wounds of an injured pride
I see in my reflection that I am a young man
I am tall, handsome, as I drink from the stream I begin to see me
The trees begin to glow a green and the sun shines through
Birds start to sing, they sing about a way out of my dead wood
And as I stand on the edge of the forest
I see meadows and hills and towns
I see a place where I can start again.
