Unto thee lift I up mine eyes,
As morning break and I arise;
O thou that dwellest from above,
And showers us with thy love;
As mine eyes look unto my master,
Who shields me from disaster;
As the maiden's eyes unto her mistress;
That comforts her from distress;
So our eyes wait upon God our Lord,
The one that is profoundly adored;
Until that he have mercy upon us all,
Rendering aid to those who are thrall;
O Lord, please have mercy upon us,
Look upon us with favor and bless;
We are exceedingly filled with disrespect,
Because we are far from being perfect;
My soul is scorning by those at ease,
I pray for forgiveness while on my knees;
I'm tormented with contempt of the proud,
Knowing that your protection will shroud.
