Renee's birthday

I put on my only suit
Hoping the beer stains didn't show
Glasby lent me a tie
Then it was time to go
To Renée's party
Where Glasby and me
Had both been invited
To her birthday tea
The little minx
Very bold
We were twenty plus
She just eight years old

We sat and munched her sandwiches
Joined in the party games
It didn't really matter
We didn't know their names
And then they took our photos
And the kids went off to mass
And chief brought in two crates of beer
And mighty booze up came to pass
